WHY REPLACE YOUR AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT?
Equipment failure
Just like an appliance or anything comprised of mechanical working parts, your central a/c and heating unit is not going to last forever. Considering Florida’s daily heat and humidity levels, your air conditioner works hard every day to provide cooling for your home. Eventually it will break down. When it does, you may have to choose between costly repairs or replacing the system. There are many factors to take into consideration before buying. Our experienced technicians can guide you through this process.
Age/Condition of your a/C system
If your a/c unit is more than ten years old, you should plan to have it replaced within the next few years. After 10 years, most units start to have frequent breakdowns and often become too expensive to keep repairing. If the cost to repair the system exceeds the value, it is probably time to replace it.
The average life expectancy of a central a/c unit is about 14 years, providing the unit has been properly maintained. It may not last that long if it is subjected to sprinklers or saltwater spraying the condenser, causing it to rust and corrode. Some parts may be discontinued or it may take time to get replacement parts that will work for your outdated system.
Efficiency
The older your air conditioning system gets, its efficiency decreases. Air conditioners are rated by SEER or “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating”. The minimum national SEER rating is 13 at this point in time. The units that once were considered “high efficiency” are no longer operating as effectively as the new, higher SEER units that meet today’s new standards in the air conditioning industry for efficiency.
The higher the SEER rating, the more efficiently the air conditioner operates, thereby saving you money on energy costs. Most older systems are rated by previous standards at 10 SEER or less. While 10 SEER was once high efficiency, it certainly is not today.
